Patrick Riley

Patrick built his first search engine while an undergraduate at Berkeley because he was tired of using Alta Vista to find academic articles. During his Ph.D., he created a search platform that captures and indexes everything said on broadcast television, in an effort to see how social media correlates to television. Patrick has published numerous computer science articles with the IEEE and ACM, as well as having ten years of industry experience.

Yiming Liu

Yiming spent most of his academic career as a researcher in information retrieval, experimenting with the use of social data to improve search. As a graduate student at UC Berkeley, he developed a blog search API that applied sentiment analysis algorithms to text search, so it retrieved the most interesting and controversial content from the social web. In his professional life, Yiming was previously a member of Yahoo! Research Berkeley, and the author of several peer-reviewed articles in various ACM proceedings.
